Just today I noticed something wrong with my betta tail, It seems to have happened within a few hours while I was gone.
He's had alot of fin growth lately so for something like this to hit like that all of a sudden has worried me out.
The last WC was 2 days ago.
I'm curious as to whether his frequent swimming over the filtered water, from the filter hehe, has some how damaged the new growth and left it the way it is.

I'm worried it could be fin rot even though I've been cleaning it well every week.

I can't get the water parameters for another 2 days but here is a before and after shot.

before

and

after

Please forgive the photo quality, I can try for some more clearer shots if it would help.

If this is something I shouldn't worry about do let me know, though if any medications are recommened I will be able to get some tomorrow morning!

Looks like fin rot to me, or he got his tail caught on something and it ripped. Try starting treatment with Melafix, if no response in a week or so, then you can go more aggressive with treatment.

Wow... and I have to say your boy looks identical to one of my boys. Whatever you do, please keep an eye on him, I lost my Equity (who could have posed as twin to your boy) to a very aggressive form of fin rot. Like your boy, he looked fine one morning and had a large chunk of his tail missing that evening. It progressed despite a barrage of medications. In the end, it went into the caudal penuncle and from there, he went downhill. It was very hard to see my little buddy decline like that... he had been my desk buddy at work for a year and got brought home when I left that job. He was the betta I spent the most time with and it was really sad to see him decline so rapidly.

Looking back in the forums, I found a thread of Equity's story near the end. Here's the thread, http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/threads/552.1.htm?11# If the link doesn't work properly, go to the Labyrinth Lounge, show all threads and do a find search for "enough", I think it's the third result.

Some of my bettas' fins get torn up from living in a community tank.

That was my first thought, it doesnt look like the usual whitening edged and shrinking that you'd associate with fungus and finrot, it looks like a tear. A lot of bettas get those.

It also looks like a tear to me. If I remember correctly you are looking for live plants. What feels soft to you could be sharp enough to tear his fins. Is there any thing else in the tank that could have sharp edges. When you buy the DW it might pay you to go over with a panty hose to see if there is any sharp edges.
Medication I certainly suggest Melafix. It can be bought on line and it is far cheaper see link.

Melafix
