Actually, it's my sisters betta. I know nothing about it, honestly.

She asked me to help her clean the tank today and when we took it out, I pointed out to her that he has dull patches and brown looking scales on him. We tried to take a picture but my camera bites and none of them came out clear.

I'm not sure how else to describe it and I can't really assume what it is because I keep SW fish and I'm not sure if it' some kind of issue that's related only to freshwater or just bettas. I tried finding something on Google but I didn't have much luck.

Anyone have any ideas?

[She's so upset, she actually offered to give me the fish because she doesn't want to get the blame if it dies. lol]

Probably skin slime issues, caused by the usual bacterial and fungal causes, saprolegnia etc. Possibly a spot of dodgy water quality started it all off. The usual fungus and finrot meds should make an impact. Whats her water perameters?

I would suggest you get your sister to do a full water test and post them as quickly as possible. In the mean time I would suggest to do a 50% water change.

Also tell us about the tank size, what is in the tank substrate, plants, filter etc. How often is the tank maintained and what percentage of the water is changed.

Her feeding program will also help as she could be feeding too much.

Get some Primafix and Melafix treat as recommended these meds can be used together.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

And how old is the fish?

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett
