Hawkeye Fingerling Posts: 19 Kudos: 7 Votes: 1 Registered: 19-Mar-2008 | Just bought a couple of neons from our LFS and one of them is doing great while the other.. not so much. However, during feeding time this morning, neither ate the frozen bloodworms or flakes we offered. Tank: 10g long HOB carbon filter Small airstone Residents: 2 larger neons 3 small Blackskirt tetras Water: No ammonia pH 7 Using Aquaclear for water treatment Potentially sick fish: ~loss of colour in comparison to the healthy one ~strange marking on side (see pic - kinda a circle within his blue stripe) ~normal behaviour (schooling, normal swim patterns, etc.) Sick Neon? |

I can not even guess by he not eating, but by the way you seid flakes and bloodworms.....I say your over feeding and you need to do a water change, and test the water for quailty Djrichie "So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish" Douglas Adams |

Our water perameters (to the best of our testing ability) are listed. Temp is consistent @ 26C. We do weekly water changes and there is no ammonia and the pH is neutral @ 7. Keep in mind this fish was just purchased yesterday and had the odd marking even while we were acclimatising it. Today is water change day (which is why its also blood worm day) but we did not overfeed as the 10g gets half a dozen individual worms and then a pinch of flakes. The rest of the worms get tossed into our main tank - a 50g. The 10 is just for quarantining new acquisitions. |

I had exactly the same marking on one of my Cardinal Tetras about one year ago. No one cold help me either but it looked like it could be a bruise during shipment. Mine was marked lower on the body. Today they are all fully grown eating well and no sign of any similar markings on any other Cardinals. I personally would run a mile from any freeze dried food I would prefer frozen even above fresh UNLESS you grow your own and can trust the water. Just keep the water clean raise the temp to 28 as I was told by an importer this could help. I would also make sure there is a good and varied diet.
