I came home from work yesterday to find my male peacock sitting on the gravel at the back of the tank near the airstone. He seems really lethargic and doesnt move.. i looked to see if he had any marks or lumps etc but couldnt see anything apart from his fins being ripped (sorta like fin rot but could be damage from fights) and a few scratches which look like fight wounds as well. Tank is a 55g with 2 female peacocks, and 2 mpangas (not sure what they are but are slightly aggressive) and 1 bn .
tank parameters are
ph 7.5
ammonia 0
nitrate 5ppm
nitrite 0
gh 6
kh 4

ive added some melafix and pimafix and a capful of stress coat

does anyone know what is wrong with him ? i really love him and would hate for him to die!

I think you might have answered your own question. Sounds like it had been fighting. How is the sick fish going now did any/all of the medications work?

he has picked up somewhat and is now swimming around however ive noticed a white mark on the front of his head which im quite worried is HITH.. im not too sure so im gng to research it a bit now and see what comes up... i know this disease is often a result of poor water quality but i do a weekly 25% water change and gravel vac and my parameters are normally fine...

edit: ok just did some research on the net and from what i can see HITH wounds appear on the sides of the face rather than in midde.. correct me if im wrong?
my male has the mark in between his eyes sort of like an indian bindi...
he also has ragged fins ...

thanks!

How old is the tank and what type of filtration are you using also how often do you do full filtration cleaning.

I would also suggest a 30%-35% water change even twice weekly for a few months this will/should help.

Thanks for your advice Keith .

Its a 55g with an eheim cannister filter. Its been running for about a year now. I clean the filter once a month and do weekly 25% water changes.

i will try and do 30% changes twice weekly and see how that goes.. should i add stress coat or anything to the water?

I would also do a full canister cleaning once a month. I do this when I do the 30% water change. I know this is not necesary as two monthly will do, but I prefer to mine monthly this keeps the filter running much better well worth the effort.
