Okay. I lost a platty this morning, and I am stumped as to how it died. It was fine last night when I fed it before bed, (about 1 am) and when I got home at noon I found it tangled in a plant, and in half. It looked like it had been dead for months. There were no signs of infections on the other fish, but should I treat them with an "all purpose" anyway? Any idea as to what caused it? I don't want to loose my other two plattys!!!

Tank size 10gal
Tankmates: 2 Plattys, 2 Zebra Danios (never have attacked anything) some molly/guppy fry (not sure how guppies got in there)
Temp: 78, but may have been colder since the heater was unplugged by my roommate by accident (I keep my home at least 75, but try to keep it at about 80 or higher, since I have a few tanks w/o heaters)
Filter: In tank filter (I cant get any exterier filters since I rent, I don't want water damage)

Im not sure about pH, but that has never been an issue.

I thought she was attacked at first, but none of the fish seemed to be picking on her. I think it was a disease....

How long have you had the platy in question? If she was a new addition her death might have been due to stress.

some test results for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate would be helpful. It will help us eliminate water issues.
If you arent sure on pH then how do you know it isnt an issue? If you dont have testkits for the above take a sample of water to a lfs and ask for the results in numbers, post them here. Otherwise we are just guessing.

How often do you do water changes and how much water at a time?

I've had her for about 6 months.

The other fish seem happy/active in the water, but I will take some to a store tommorrow and post the results ASAP

I do weekly changes of about a gallon, but add about 2 (no lid, so there is alot of evaporation)
