Someone here may know what this is by just your discription, but you will get a better responce if you include your water perams. and a picture would help. if possible.

It is extremely difficult to be accurate with that amount of information but I am "guessing" it could be a fungus.
You will have to give us a complete tank description size, water changes etc also a full water parameters test if you can not do this take a good water sample to your LFS and get it done. The sooner we have all the info the quicker your fish can be helped.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Try some melafix and primafix - sounds like a fungus, but your paramiters would help - tank size, PH, etc.

Google "cottonmouth". Does this look similar?

It could be fungus, but IME it is usually a bacterial infection. Try Pimafix, but if you have no luck I'd move on to an antibiotic.

Being a US citizen you should be able to get jungle labs fungus guard, which because of its furan and salt content should handle both flexibacter columnaris (probably the disease at hand ) and fungi(just in case its fungi). Takes the guess work out of it for you a little.
