Chances are, they are a small harmless critter known as planaria. It usually indicates a little too much waste food and excreta is left in the tank on a regular basis, especially if they are getting over a cm long. Most folks dont realise planaria can get that big, but occassionally they do.Take a looky here for an ID. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planarium Clean up the tank, and reduce the fish feeds a little and they will find it difficult to survive. Other options could potentially include nematode worms, leeches, and various crustacean parasites, but unless they are trying ti attach themselves to your fish, this is unlikely. There are a load of loaches and gouramis that happily eat such creatures but generally its better to starve them out rather than use fish to control them, as it tends to overburden an already stocked tank if you add more fish. More gravel cleaning, water changes, and leaner feeding schedules usually clear em right up. |
