I noticed today that one of my neons has pop eye. Is it contagious? I have no idea of how long it has been like that. About 6 months ago I went through a bout of fin rot and the neons took a beating before I could get it all cleared up. For all I know it could have had pop eye since then. Any recommendations??

Pop-eye

As you can see this infomation came from the link below

[link=Look Here]http://www.aquariumpharm.com/disease.html" style="COLOR: #00FF00[/link]

Caused by: bacterial infection, parasite infestation, metabolic disorders, and poor water quality.

Symptoms: one or both eyes swell and project from the head. In severe cases, the eye can burst from the socket.

Occurrences: Pop-eye typically affects only one or two fish in an aquarium or pond, and is not considered to be infectious.

Treatment/Control: affected fish can be treated with MelaFix or PimaFix.

Thanks Keith. I have a feeling this fish has had this for awhile. It doesn't seem to be affected by its eye. It eats well and is as active as the rest of the fish. I medicated the tank a couple of times to clear up the finrot and possibly treated the popeye at the same time. That was about 4-6 months ago. I'll just keep an "eye" on it to make sure it doesn't get any worse. Thanks again!

90% of the time, pop eye is caused by poor water quality. Usually if you keep the water quality really good and the tank really clean it should clear on its own. Try increasing the frequency and amount of your water changes. TEST your water or get it tested at the local fish shop and post the numbers up here so we can give better advice.
