Sorry to hear of your loss Ingo.

And I must say, I really like your gourami pair, very nice.

Well,

I just went down in the basement and turned on a tiny flashlight (broke my own lights out rule). Both remaining Pearls are still alive and not hovering the ground. They are resting out in the open, close to the surface. Hope that's a good sign.

Bensaf and Keith,

Thank you so much for your responses and I do hope that the reason I lost this fish is more based on Keith’s statement as it would give me hope that the remaining 2 can make it on their own. Unfortunately it seems more likely that something on the line of Bensaf’s explanation is going on, the flinging and hiding appear to be clear signs of a lack of wellness.

I will have to wait until tonight to make my next move as it is currently “lights out” and I can’t even see them (I am rather strict on not disturbing rest periods) and then I will have to be at work for the whole day.

If they are still alive tonight and show the same symptoms I will go out and try to get some medicine. Seachem sells a product called “Metronidazole”, but it has to be fed to the fish. So what to do with the platies in the tank? Just give them the food as well? I would not be easily able to remove/separate them and the attempt would for sure create extra stress.

I just hate buying new fish.

Thanks again,

Ingo

EDIT: I also found This Product on the Dr.'s website. That would be tablet form.

Another thing about the Pearl Gourami some do not like transporting at all. If they are even over crowded in a LFS tank they can bruse internally very easy. It also can happen before they arrive at the LFS. I have lost a few this way. I once lost a batch of opalines I complained straight away and they were replaced they also lost many at the LFS as well cause unknown.

I was warned many years ago be carefull about buying adult pearls reason being the conditions they are grown and breed in.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

Sorry for the loss Ingo.

Labyrinth fish while generally very hardy are e to one thing more then other fish. Internal parasites. This is not helped by the breeding practices in Asian fish farms where most of them come from.
So much so that I know some people who give every gourami they buy a prophylactic dose of an anti parasite med. I'm one of them.
The behaviour you describe, flicking hiding in dark corners is consistent with parasites.Eating but obviously not happy also a sign. Pearl gouramies are not that shy in my experience. They should be out and about happy in a few hours, especially the juvies. When they have parasites they go very quite and sulky.

I've used Metrodizanole to treat Gouramies very successfully. It's a very very gentle med and very specific. It won't bother plants or unaffected fish. If I remember correctly it also oxidises fast, within 24hrs, so you don't even need to run carbon after doing.

As I say a lot of people will dose this for new Gouramies , even if they are not showing symptoms. Some go as far as dose every six months as a precaution.

Try it, if it's parasites you should see an improvement within a few days. The fish usually recover fully very quickly. Should be easily available in LFS. Don't know any brand names. They sell it in little one dose sachets here as an anti parasite med for Flowerhorns.

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Thanks upikabu,

I hope they will be fine too. I once tried to have a Dwarf Gourami - he also dies within 24 hours (but he had clear signs of Cotton Mouth).

Well, I did a 50% water change. Once done the 2 remaining Gouramies came out after a while and swam mostly together through the tank. Sometimes they were peacefully touching each others sides - face to side - almost like courtship (but I don't know if these fish court like this). I also saw the female fling briefly with rapid motion, maybe 4 flings in a row. Later, I saw her also sitting between the plants in the ground, but she got up again and swam around with the male.

I don't know

Well, here is a picture that I took after the water change, maybe you can see something that is not as it should be:

So sorry to hear about your loss, Ingo.

Unfortunately I don't have any real advice since I never had good luck with labyrinth fishes in general. From what I've read about Pearls, they are the most hardy gourami species next to the Blue Gourami. So outside of general transport stress, it could be agression from the other gouramis like you said. But that usually takes longer than 24h to cause problems and normally you can physically see signs of bullying on the victim (hiding, not eating, etc.).

Here's hoping your other ones will do fine.
