Possible disease? | |
NFaustman Enthusiast Posts: 172 Kudos: 163 Votes: 78 Registered: 13-Jun-2005 | I have a female red platy approximately 8 months old, that has developed 2 tiny black black dots, one on each side of the anus. It appears that one is also forming on her right side, near the dorsal fin. These spots are tiny, but a little bigger than, say, ich. By the way, I have been treating this particular tank for ich for a few weeks. The spots do not appear to protrude outward from the body, so I'm thinking its probably just a natural genetic coloring thing. Or could it be a disease? She appears to be in very good health, minus the occassional flicking she does on plant leaves, and she eats normally. I should also mention that there are no longer any visual signs of ich on her or in the tank (other than the occassional flicking) "I am a believer in punctuality, though it makes me very lonely" EV Lucas |

Did this tank have ich? And did you treat it? If so, I would say to continue the treatment, as the flickering on the plants and other decor are signs of irritation in the gills. The fish may still have some ich in the gills. There is always a bigger fish... |

It also sounds like the Ich is still there. What meds and other adjustments have you made to the tank since treating the Ich. Remember you must treat the tank not just the fish. Some tips you could folow. Increase the temp. Turn off the light/s Less feeding. Use a stress coat or Melafix with the Ich treatment providing they are compatable. The treatment should continue for at least 14 days after you have seen the last of the Ich. Then you can start doing more 30% water changes to remove all the meds. I used a product called Aquarisol, which appeared to work well. I treated the tank for about a month total, and roughly 2 weeks after the last visible signs of ich were gone. But the platy just started flicking again. So I've turned the temp back up and continued treatment. I'll also cut back on feeding and light. I hate ich. Such a pain in the rear! As for the platy's black spots, I'll just keep an eye on her. It looks somewhat natural, but then again, 2 spots almost identical, on opposite sides. Odd, I'd say.
