Scat Is Breathing Very Quickly ? | |
spotty red scat Small Fry Posts: 3 Kudos: 1 Votes: 0 Registered: 23-Feb-2008 | Tank 50cm/92cm/36cm litres139.1 hardness 280 Ammonia:0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 pH:7.2 Temp:27 c Tank has very large granet rocks to hide in gravel with sand areas drift wood (which is australian gum tree root which came form a tree thats been dead for about a hundred years. It has been in the tank for 3 years. Stock List (Quantity/Species Peacock{ avlonocora} 12cm Scat 15cm osca 3cm Dolphin cichlid 15cm/ 8cm upside down cat fish 8cm Bulldog pleco catfish 12cm I think thats what he is. Red Jewel 13cm Electric yellows 2 11cm Hongi 10cm / 8cm blue striped fish dont know what type cichlid filter is a fluval 204 canister The scat has started to breath very quickly I have noticed that his gill seem ok in colour but i dont know if the filament are normal or not they look like white fine eyelashes but lots of them almost like a fringe. The ph did drop 3 weeks ago but I have done heaps of water changes it seem stable now also added shell grit the osca is a new fish (a gift ) He seems ok |

Scats are brackish water fish. They must have a salinity (Specific Gravity) of 1.005 to 1.012. The other fish you have in that tank cannot live in water that is saline. I suspect you should immediately remove the Scat from that tank and either return it, or give it the water that it requires, quickly. http://badmanstropicalfish.com/stats/misc_stats/stats_misc2d.html Also... Please note the size of these fish when mature.. 12 inches! Your tank is not big enough for this fish muchless all the others that you have in it. He doing his thing and seems ok now .I know the tank is getting small .it was a gift from my Husband. 5 years ago .The fish have grown up in the tank and had babies. But I am trying to talk him into a much larger tank. |
