Is it possible he has something stuck in his mouth, cut it from a sharp object in the tank?
Can you take it to a reliable LFS?

As a precaution I would use Primafix and Melafix this will releave any stress and stop any infection spreading also help in the healing process.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

ive peered into his mouth during one of his 'stretches' and couldnt see anything lodged in there... there really isnt anything in the tank that could cut him besides dw...

i have added stresscoat and melafix too the tank.. i might continue doing this and see how he goes...

thanks!!

Id go with pimafix to start, sounds like a fungal lip infection. These typically soften the tissue unnoticed around the lip until finally it begins to erode and tear during normal feeding. Failing pimafix, your average off the shelf anti-finrot and fungus formulas usually clear it up.
