Hello,
I have a sick Gourami. He has a large red hole on the one side with white fuzz around the edges of the whole. It is only on one side. He is still eating and swimming around normally.

I have been trying to treat my dwarf Gourami for over 2 weeks now. I tried the Melafix with the Pimafix for 7 days and no improvement. I waited to see if it would get better. But it isn't getting much worse. I need to know if this is bacterial or fungal because I was going to try Fungus cure next, because I have it in the house, or should I go back to the others for longer.

My parameters are:
Ph 7.0
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0

This is an established tank. I have him in with a bristlenose and 5 neon tetras. They seem to be all getting along.

I think he has hole-in-the-head disease w/ fungus growing out fo it. The Treatmeant would probably be Chloramphenicol, Tetracycline, and Sulphoneotics. You might also want to put an oil-based antiseptci cream to protect it. Also try putting in salt. I hope It Feels Better.

I dont know much about diseases but im pretty sure HITH develops over a long period of time, but then again i could be wrong. I believe that its an open wound (possibly a heater burn) that simply grew fungus. Just keep on adding the melafix and pimafix, and you may start adding salt as Garofoli said.

Thanks Keith, I did look at the list of diseases and I couldn't determine what it was. It is at the base of the left fin, and he is using his fins okay. Also, no problems with breathing or scraping his body against anything. It looks red at the base of the "cut", or maybe it is a cyst, and then white or gray fuzzy stuff around the edges. What does a cyst look like? His wound looks like a deep hole, but not near his head. I thought it looked like fungus. I started treatment with fungus cure, does anyone have a site that has pictures that I could look at?

Thanks all.
Mary
