Sick panda | |
bettafin Hobbyist Posts: 106 Kudos: 112 Votes: 17 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | For the last couple of days one of my panda's has been laying upside down. I thought he was dead, then when I went to get him he swam away and looked normal. He has been laying on his side or upside down now for 3 days. I've had him for 4yrs. I noticed the heater was off, I usually keep the temp at 78, but it was at 71. The ph is 6.8, I tried to get a reading on nitrates/nitrites but my test strips are expired. They read nitrates 40 nitrites .5. All the other fish in the tank are fine. I will get new testing strips, any suggestions? |

Could help you out more if you can get some more paramiters. What size tank and how many other fish in with it? Has there been any chenges to its environment lately? |

What is perhaps more probable is that he perhaps was already fighting an ailment of some sort and perhaps the dip in temps meant that his me Sometimes too, a change of 5 degrees in a previously very stable tank could cause the filter bacteria to take a dive in reproductive rate, and that may have caused a small nitrite spike, perhaps only lasting a few hours and the cory was the unlucky one who couldnt cope, again , just bad luck really. Sorry for the loss. Sorry for the loss. |

Test strips are far from accurate and the liquid test kits sold at LFS are reliable remembering there are many brands to choose from. I would steer clear from the cheaper no brand names. Your tank is certainly a cast where a second heater would have helped to maintain the required heat. When you say "OFF" do you mean it was switched off at the power supply if so you should think about setting up a system where this does not happen. Both my tanks have power boards with switches for every outlet and each outlet is marked. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. It must of happened during my weekly bottom vac/water change and I didn't notice it until I did my weekly mantainace. My tank is 26 US gallons. Fish list: 5 Black widows 2 Gold rams 2 panda's 2 albino corys 1 bristle nose cat All of the other fish are healty. I will get the liquid testing kit. The sick panda is still alive. But I don't want to see him suffer anymore. Are there any last options? I know panda's are delicate so 4 years is probably common. |

I got the liquid testing kits. The nitrites are zero and the nitrates are at 40. I am gradually moving the temp up, it's now at 74. I don't want to keep him suffering if there's no hope. |
