When treating ich, should i take the plants out of the aquarium? i've been treating ich in my tank for about 2 weeks now, and it seems to be getting worse... i've tried quick-cure and also ich clear, neither seem to be effective... i'm doing daily water changes like the treatment says to... i'm adjusting the PH in the new water, putting aqua plus in it and making sure the temperatures are the same. the only thing i can think of now is taking the plants out... and if i take the plants out, can i ever put them back in or should i get all new plants?

Ich can only be killed when in the free swimming stage and not while on the fish. It will take weeks of treatment with one medication to be sure it's gone. Water changes and gravel vacs will help remove some of the parasite. Increasing the temp can speed up or interfere with the lifespan of ich but usually adds more stress to the fish than it's worth. If your tank parameters are stable without a changing ph and a constant temperature within a range your fish can tolerate they should recover fine. Remember to keep treating even after the spots appear to be gone because that's the point at which you can kill the ich. If you stop treatment it can easily come back. I've had the best luck using rid ich plus and you will have to remove the plants if your treating full dose with that or they will probably end up dead. You can add the plants back in after the medication is removed.
