He lays on his side looking 3/4 dead but when he does swim which is rare he looks fine. His body color is dark, just a few shades lighter than his spots. I see no signs of disease on him (no spots of any color or fungus). I tested the water this am, there is 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and 20 nitrates. I havent tested my ph lately but it usually runs about 6.4. any ideas? ~ Mae West |

If you did contact them recontact them there was certainly a problem with that shipment. What ever killed the others is certainly causing the same problems now. I will give them a call and see if there are any other problems with that batch. edited to add: I just spoke with the supplier and they said they havent had any problems with that row of tanks or any reports of problems from other customers. ~ Mae West |

Usually a big shipment comes in, and they end up dying off in huge numbers. A lot of the fish lie on one side or nearly upside-down, and some stay near the surface and gulp in air almost continually. We've had this problem with cories from more than one distributor, but unfortunately I have no idea what it is. I hate to say it, but things don't look good for your fish. Personally, I would euthanize it. |

I'm not sure if Corydoras agassizi does it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. When corys die from this, they generally do not show any physical signs of illness. When packaging any cory species, it is always recommended to do it in large bags and put only a few fish in each bag, to minimize the chance of the fish poisoning themselves. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

I've seen Ian Fuller talk about it but never anything in-depth. |

It seems that it's something of a mystery to everyone, and I don't think any notable studies have been carried out on the subject. I have noticed the phenomenon myself while working at the fish store. Whenever I bagged up Corydoras trilineatus, I noticed that there would be bubbles or a slight foaminess at the top (which is what Ian Fuller described as well). I never noticed it when I bagged up Corydoras aeneus or Corydoras paleatus, even though the water parameters in the tanks were all the same. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |
