hi guys,

sad news.. well i hope not.

one of my silver dollars has developed a growth in the last few days.

it looks like he might have burnt himself on the heater or something?

background: a few days ago, in the 3ft tank he was fine, no marks.

i moved all the fish into a 60L tub with existing water. i

i filled the 4ft tank with new water, treated it, and added the old tank water making about 40% of the water. with me?

i added the fish, and the rest of the old water.

then this growth game about, while they were in the tub i had it filtering and heated... all the other silver dollars (4) are fine, and the affect one isn;t behaving abnormally

what is it? how can i heal it?

heres some pics of the growth

i would probably use a broad spetrum anti bacterial/anti fungal med ie melafix, or this stuff i have which is cure all (got it from pets paradise in oz of all places!) just to be safe the again if hes still eating and it starts to look beter in a couple of days then dont bother. probably is just a burn as ive never seen anything like it!

Hello, Hopefully someone will come and have a look at this and help you out very soon!!!!!

It looks pretty wrong, so if it is getting bigger i would definately put melafix in your tank!!!!
I'll have a look around on the web for any pictures that look similiar to your fish!!!!!

Post all your water parameters and others will come and help you!!!!!!!!

At a bare minimum:

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH (and do they use any adjusters):
Temp:

Stock List:
Tank Size:
Water change schedule and % changed:

I am just wondering if it could be an ulcer if it getting bigger, and the fact that it is rather large for a heater burn???

Have you got a quarantine tank, if you don't have much melafix???

Ouch, thats nasty! I would guess its a heater burn and the dead skin around the burnt area is falling off. If the fish is eating and behaving normally I would leave it where it is and make sure the water is kept nice and clean. Grab some more melafix and do a course of treatment with that to help healing. Grab a heater guard from the lfs aswell. Keep a close eye on the wound to ensure it doesnt get fungused up or infected.

Good luck.

you can also speed up the healing process by adding some salt to the water, it will get it slime coat producing more slime since it slightly irritates the skin of the fish

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an bacon and egg breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."
