I may be pannicking over nothing but I have a skinny guppy female. She is eating fine but not associating with the other guppies. She recently had fry. I have put her in a floating plastic brooder and when I put in bloodworm she eats like there is no tomorrow. Water is ph7, ammo0, nitrite0, nitrate 15. I have put in a dose of pimafix so that could be distorting the nitrate reading. I did a 30% WC last night. I noticed this female yesterday and today she is still alive so thats a good thing. No new fish have been added to this tank and I have had these guppies quite a while.

Her sister:

Im sure she is fine if she is hoovering up the bloodworms. She appears to look ok to me. EDIT - oh wait I was looking at her sister. Maybe its just worn out after a large spawn?

...isnt skinny guppy a goth band or something?

i'm sorry for her condition - she looks very tired and stressed out - possibly one or more of the males was harrassing her? spirulina flakes soaked in garlic guard might help as I see her white stringy poop - see if you can add a small airstone in the brooder and a floating stem of a plant or broad leaf so she feels more secure.

Perhaps she is just worn out. I see two males just chilling on a couple of leaves. Maybe they are the pursuers and worn out too?
The stringy stuff is poop, most likely as I just got her eating frozen bloodworm and its overloaded her system.
Guppies do love fresh tomato flesh so I will toss a bit into her container.
She really seems to like her container and the fact that the boys can't enter.
I might also keep up the pimafix for a bit, just in case she got an infection while birthing.

Unfortunately something was severely wrong with the insides of the guppy. This afternoon she was even more tucked up and the width of her tail was wider than her girth. She was barely able to lift herself from the bottom of the brood tray. There was no external evidence anything was wrong except for the skinniness. I euthanased her quickly.

Aww, sorry for the loss bren. I hope it dosent come to this another time.....

I would say parasites was the problem. Theres no way it could have starved with the bloodworms you are feeding it. Parasites wouldve depleted here quickly if that were the problem, and it seems to be too. If you couldve used a fibrous food like cucumber or zuchinni, or even carrots or peas, it couldve driven the supposed parasite out. If it dosent eat it, then i woulve fed it some anti-parasite food, or use Jungle Labs Parasite Clear, as i heard that that is effective.

I think that the enthusiasation was a good move in a way, but i also think it could have been reversed if it were parasites. On the bright side, you didnt let the parasite escape from the fish and into the water, where others would get infected. Better luck next time!

RIP guppy

She lives on in her fry. I have 15 of her fry swimming about in my shrimp nano tank.
