maximadriver Fingerling Posts: 28 Kudos: 29 Votes: 0 Registered: 02-Nov-2004 | i went to feed my oscar today and noticed something is wrong with his eye. there is a white mark on the middle of his left eye. i cannot tell if he hurt his eye on the tank decor, or if something is growing on it. can fungus grow on the outside of the eye? i've enver seen that before. |

If the cause can be established, treat with anti bacterial or anti parasitic remedies. hope that helps. 33 gallon 7 neon tetras-5 platys-3 bleeding heart tetras-2 corys-1 rainbow shark-2 L83 gibby plecos |

What are the tankmates if any? You may want to keep a very close watch on it. If you have no scaleless fish, like catfish, plecos, or loaches, or sharks, then you could go ahead and add some aquarium salt. This will cleanse the wound and prevent fungal growth. Also, cloudy eyes can be a sign of poor water conditions. Oscars are very dirty fish. Have you tested ammonia, nitrItes, and nitrAtes? How often and what percentage do you do water changes? If you have no scaleless fish and choose to add salt, go with pure aquarium salt, and add 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons, predissolve it in a cup, and pour it in a little bit at a time over 2 days. This will prevent shock to the fish. Good luck. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

This is often how dire events kick off with oscars. First the misting of the eye, often compounded by a small fingal infection. In my experience cloudy eye is often a precursor symptom for hexamita, possibly because mild fungal infections help hexamita to enter via even minor wounds. Ive seen it happen so many times now im convinced that it happens often enough to be worried about. First the eye goes misty, then it clears, and about 2 weeks later the first signs if lateral line erosion begin, then the sensory pits on the face start to erode and enlarge. Give us all the details and we can help you to make the changes that stops this sort of thing from happening. |
