Quick question, if I have a UV light hooked up, and now have found 2 ich spots on one of my fish and I am treating the tank with Aquari-sol, sould I:
A) keep the UV Sterilizer on
or
B) turn off the UV Sterilizer?

Id turn the lights of, ick speeds its growth by a form of photosynthesis, it will stop it reproducing so quickly if you turn the lights off, and that will slow its spread and the effect it has on the fish giving the meds time to work.

Aquarisol is basically just copper sulphate based so there should be no problems. Try esha exit if it fails, ive found it to be excellent.

Keep it on, Kitty. If the light intensity is high enough, the UV may kill or maim the trophonts or tomites that pass through the sterilizer.

Remember the life cycle of ich is:
1. Trophozoites mature in the skin of the fish (white spots).
2. Trophont (mature trophozoite) leaves the fish.
3. Trophont produces tomites.
4. Trophont bursts and tomites are released.
5. Tomites penetrate the skin of the fish, and the cycle is repeated.

The critter is vulnerable only in the tomite stage. Raise your tank temps slowly to +80F to speed the life cycle of the beasties. Do a 50% water change. Treat per directions.

? Well, as you know, I have heated the tank to 82 now, (since you called it the last time - Parasites-) I was just concerned that the UV "Sterilizer" would effect the meds "Aquari-sol" I will turn it back on, I turned it off this morning. Will turn it right back on. And yes, It would kill them since that is what I got it for in the first place. (I just hadn't hooked it up since the move - 1 year ago- and I guess now I am paying for it) Thanks again Bob

Yup the uv should not have an effect on the chemical composition of that particular drug.

Thanks longhairedgit, I have the light back on as of last night. I don't see the two Ich spots anylonger, so I am guess 100's are swimming around, and mr. Elephantnose is just starting to rub. I am hoping with the meds and the UV light, it will kill them all.
