We moved nearly three years ago, and since we have lived here I have had more odd fish deaths causes unknown than i really thought was fair since I try really hard to read and learn and not do things totally wrong.

They have died in different ways, first they go skinny or bloated some times they dropsey sometimes they don't. sometimes they just die with no outward causes. but nearly always during mar/ may or aug/ oct. The Bettas have been thonly ones who got sick outside of this time frame.

My pH goes from 7.6 in January, up to 8 and then 9+ by around march april(as in the LFS thinks I am mad and my results they can't be right they test and it comes out the same). this happens again at the end of the summer. ie now.

any how we got a letter from the water Company. It turns out they clean the pipes at different times in different parts of the area, it will turn you water cloudy you should let the tap run it is safe etc etc.

THey have been doing this every year, I phoned them and I got this very nice man who explained that they clean some times twice a year starting in March and finishing in May and in other parts August to October. he was keen to tell about how I drink the best cleanest water in the whole Country. he couldn't tell me what they used, only that it moved Calcuim and limescale deposits hence Cloudy water. i found it all a bit suss really.

it has taken me a while to figure this out, I knew about the dodgey pH a few months ago but everything I read and was told(by LFS)said leave it alone too difficult to stablise.

I just wondered if the pH issue would make my fish susceptible to illness? i think it would.

I guess I have to try and stablise the pH, but I just wanted to warn people that if your Water company clean your water it may lead to bad things!

cheers
GFG

I live in a seaside tourist area and a water alters all the time and with the drought we have been having who knows what they are puting into the water. I always store the water for one week this helps to release any extra gasses also a ICH control.

I also add a dechlorinator before I store the water this is usually at double strength.

As well as that I also add a PH adjuster into the new water ever time other wiser I would go mad testing all the time.

Sydney NSW Aust also has had similar water problems I believe this year.
