I have some weird looking dust that aeems to be spreading on the fake plants in my tank. It also seems to be spreading in the non-moving area of the aquarium(stagnant water)...

Does anyone have any clue what this is...?

At the moment I would not be concerened what it is (possibly a fungus).

Just get all the plants out and give them a good wash if possible if this is not possible leave them in the sun for at least a week or buy new plants.

Secondly clean the tank from top to bottom and add more airation.

What filtration do you have.
What percentage and how often do you change the water?

Finally can you use live plants?

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I have had this problem once before. I had added some medicine to my water to treat one of my fish and the tank turned yellow. I gave it a water change and cleaned all the decorations and it was gone.

But if you havent added anything to the water lately id suggest giving the tank a good about 50% water change and clean the fake plants and anyother decorations in the tank. Then id add either an airstone (or 2) or a power head near a dead spot(better choice over the airstone)

Im wondering myself whether this dust
might actually be diatoms. Diatoms
act often like an algae, and spread to areas
of the tank that dont get cleaned often,
and areas where debris like uneaten food may
float and be left to rot.
Diatoms are often common in a new tank,
but may also occur in older tanks as well.
I Concur with the large water change and
cleaning of decor. Scrub well, and maybe even
lightly boil the plants.
Lessen feeding for awhile by a bit, and quantitiy
of feedings, and up water change frequency a little
and see if it goes away.

Also- a picture could be very very useful in
determining exactly what we are hearing about.
If you can, snap a pic.
Even a lousy pic would be better than no pic.

Best of luck to you.
