My tetras, rasboras and tiger barbs all have a white film on the top half of their bodies that i cant explain. My plecos, clown loaches, frogs and gouramis are not affected.

It sounds like a fungal infection. Treat with melafix and primafix. I hope it helps.

Keep the treatment going for at least a week after the last sign of the problem also add airation this should also help in the healing process.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

If the air stone is putting out fine bubbles and that is not what it should be doing. You have two choices take it out and clean it, or replace it. Also check the pump to see if it is working properly.

Melafix and pimafix often make the water a little foamy , its nothing to worry about. And you get the smell of tea tree oil. Bubble bath for fish LOL.

Melafix didn't affect my UGF. Mind you, the bubble froth from the powerhead was something awesome - it looked as if I'd put detergent in there!

If the current state of my fish is anything to go by, the Melafix treated their ailment like a storm - I now have the affected fishes (some of my Pandas) growing their fins back quite happily, and beetling about all over the place happy as anything. Right now as I type this, they're chasing live Daphnia all over the aquarium!

Ive used melafix and pimafix in tanks with internal filters and external filters and none suffered any appreciable bacterial die off. Presumably its only a risk if your tank is so dirty and infectious bacteria so numerous that their death causes so much load on the filter that it causes the tank to crash. Mela and pima dont noticeably affect the aerobic bacteria in the filter, even with sustained use.

I have also used both Melafix and Primafix in both tanks yes it does foam up a little but this clears away when you start the water changes after the medication as done its job.
