I have 2 Blue rams with white spots on their fins, none of the other fish do (cardinals & corys). I dont think it is ick, cause they've had it for about a month and they are not dead and it isn't spreading. The fish don't act stressed or sick. I could try to get a picture on here sometime. Any help?

Without the photos it is very hard to say what it could be. If it is not Ich it "could be" a fungus if it is on their fins.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

While i am at it i would like to now the gender of these two also. If anyone could help with that i would appreciate it.

The guy at my LFS said the spots were just infected wounds.

They also didn't know how to sex them so i just bought two and hoped for a pair. (i dont know how either)

Any way here are some pics.

(Probably the best shot of the fin problem.)

Sorry about the poor quality photos. I don't have a good camera.

Thanks for the help.

Pickle,

there is something wrong with your upload from Photobucket - I get a statement that the specified image does not exist and it shows the same pics over and over.

Are the spots really white or more a less opaque damage to the fin?

I dont know why it didn't work. but they look like white spots, some bigger than others, only on the fins and it isn't spreading. Yes they do look white.

I fiddled with your photo and while the colors are dulled, it does now show the white spots better.
The spots seem to be right on the tips of the fins so would indicate an injury and scarring. Maybe instead of blue spots appearing (normal) they are now white spots?
By the way, the long length of the dorsal fins past the base of the tail, would indicate you may have two males.

Would both of them being males be the cause of the nipping? If that is the problem.

I have at least 4 males in my 5ft tank and they might and often lip lock there is never any fin damage.

You said they have had it for a month. How long have you had them? What else is in the tank and what are all the water perimeters. I would treat with Pimafix and Melafix together as recommended and it should clear it up. You might just have one fish that is doing all the damage if so get rid of it by returning it or putting it into another tank.

Do these fish have plenty of room and areas they can call their own?

They both looked good when i bought them, but when i brought them home i noticed a little of it on one of them. I should put a little more structure in the tank just to set up some barriers and stuff. It is a 38 gal., 36in long.

I dont have time to check parameters now, but i will post them up in a while.

Thanks for the help
