White edge on red tailed sharks fins | |
steven1982 Hobbyist Posts: 104 Kudos: 74 Votes: 38 Registered: 13-Jan-2008 | I am looking at getting a red tailed shark. When I go to ALL the local pet stores I see that most of there red tails have a white edge to there fins. Is this fin rot? Should I stay away from the red tails till the pet store get this under control. Or stay away from them all together as the supplier of the fish has big problem? |

It could also be a mutation ...not sure ..can't say that I've seen any like that . Ask the LFS what they think ..but it may be wise to give it a miss unless you are sure its a mutation . Garry |

I had a red tail in Nov 2007 but it got something very similar. The dorsal fin had white on the tip. Not all of the edge of the fin but still looked similar, almost like ich. I treated for ich (1/3 water change daily, and medication, no carbon in filter) but by Christmas (4 weeks later) it had not got better. The red tail died, Over x-mas as well as the rest on the tank. I think that the thing that killed my tank may be the same thing as the white edged fins on all the red tails in my area. I am sure that it is not Ich. |

I also think it can disappear as they get older and larger. If you look closely you can see it is a colour and not a fin rot as the fin is in perfect shape and healthy looking. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
