Zebra Danio with a big belly | |
justin84 Fingerling Posts: 45 Kudos: 30 Votes: 20 Registered: 08-Dec-2004 | I just bought about 6 zebra danios and a few of there bellies are huge. They eat good, swim around and are very active. What could this be? 55gal Tank:130 watt coral lights,Eheim Wet/Dry 2227 Canister Filter,Powerhead, Co2 Injection and a heater. |

Thought maybe pregnant but guess not as it has been weeks and weeks wth the big tummies. I do not overfeed either so I guess they just are bigger Danios. I have had them for over a year so maybe they are just happy and well rounded. LOL |

If the condition isnt too bad, but they eat a lot, and dont seem to be heavy anywhere else in the body that is always a possibility. Look at the tail and in fleshy areas immediately behind the top of the head, if those areas are plump and solid, its just weight gain, if those areas are sight and lithe, and just the belly is large, there could be a problem. Could well just be what your seeing is the difference in the sexes, females are more e to weight gain, and broader body dimensions, and periodic gravidity is also possible, although you may never have seen a spawn since they will often take the opportunity to do the deed in private, and in community the eggs are often eaten without a trace being left. Periodic constipation is also possible, and if you think that may be the case , try offering some blanched mashed peas or garlic, and see if you can get things moving. Whats the diet youve both been feeding your fish BTW? |
