this has been going on for too long! i have lost probably 20 fish or more! the most recent casualty was my female ram, who was fine yeatserday, now i find her today with droopsy and dead, infact, alot of the fish that die are fine, but only pine cone after death, or very colse to it, but still remain active and eating... so far i have lost losts of guppies, a buenos ares tetra, over 20 cory and zebra danio fry, 1 adult zebra danio, 1 adult female ram.

and i have a male betta on his way out, he has been lying on his side for days, and has not beed eating for a week! i know he is starving, but he is too weak to eat now, he just lyes there unable to move....this happened shortly after a waterchange (the lying on the side bit)

i almost lost a femal betta too, but i was able to pull her back, and is doing better at the moment.

all fish and tanks recieve a water chnge every week, i also cant test my water, and i dont have a fish store near me at all. these symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

You don't mention in your post if you are treating your water for chlorine or chloramine when doing your water changes, are you?

Are there any possible other contaminants in your water, or getting into the tank from outside sources?

Do you have the ability to post a picture of any of the dead or dying fish? This may help in identifying what is going on.

There is an extremly good chance that it is a water introduced problem.

Am I correct in these statements.

Deaths in diffferent tanks?

All after water changes either gradually or sudden?

Does you supply come via town supply or a poluted well?

If you have answered yes to all it is a water problem.

What caused it possibly you will never know as it has possibly been and gone by now.

This is what possibly happened a bacteria or a poison entered your water supply and killed all your good bacteria therefore causing a massive cycle bloom.

A very similar thing happened to me and others in my area last year. It was bacically a bacteria that multiplied to extreme as the weather started to warm up. It was so powerfull it killed all the good bacteria in the tanks.

If you have well water it could have been poluted many miles away and finally ended up in you water supply.

The only conclusion you could draw from that is that they are tough and can survive in non perfect conditions.

fishy, you say you cant test you water,
I would highly highly recommend you not rely on
guesswork and an pet store to test it for you.
Go out and buy a test kit, one that contains ph, ammonia,
nitrites and nitrAtes.
If you cant find one near you www.bigalsonline.com

Pet stores often just use those dip tests, and they
are not very reliable.
Before adding any more fish I think you should try to get at the root of the problem, before you just end up with more dead fish on your hands.

I've dealt with sudden mystery deaths. They'd be swimming, eating, and have no physical signs of a problem but then I'd wake up the next morning or leave for a little while and come back and they'd be dead. Mine didn't even have symptoms after death. We had our well water tested for everything and it was fine. Tank parameters were perfect as well. I tossed every medicine I could find in the tanks but none of it seemed to do any good. I ended up with 1/10th my fish left and for 2 more months random illnesses would show up and claim a fish or 2. Eventually it all just went away and I could start restocking my tanks but I never did find out the exact cause. An odd bacteria is the only good guess I have.

my fiend found a dead guppy, looked a few days dead too, but also the next day the betta covered the top of his tank in a bubble nest, but i havent plans to add fish to the other tanks for a while, also, the sick betta died 2 days ago, and the female betta i was worried about is all better, no other fish showing anything now, but im still kinda leery about doing water chnges, so i will just get a gallon jug of water, and so a small water change on the 20 long.
