hello
I am in need of some help......
I just bought about a month ago an existing 120 gal. tanganikian tank. I have 10-15 clowns(not actually sure how many they hide all the time) I also have catfish and many other cichlids. I recently added 3 peacocks.
I have been noticing that over the past 2 weeks my clowns have not been looking as bright as they did when I got them, mostly the larger ones about 5-6" the smaller ones<2 inches look normal. I have many different types of fish not sure of their names, but there is these white ones with black circles around their eyes, some of them have been rubbing against the pots and caves I have as if to scratch themselves.
well tonight one of my new peacocks passed away. and I noticed that a few of my smaller clowns now have what looks like air bubbles on them.(? white spots)
I am thinking maybe it is ich...... I am worried about treating them I have ick away???? (came with the tank)
anyways I only want to treat them if it is really ich and not stress. some friends of mine said that the clowns could be stressed causing the loss of color, but I am thinking not because of the behaviors of the white guys and the peacock passing on.
my water
is
ph 7.0
nitrate is <.25
temp is 83 F
water changes every weeks about 1/4 (same temp added back)
PLEASE HELP is this ich if so how do I treat??????

Its most Likely Ich. Your Lfs should carry Ich remedy. Dont treat Ich with Ick Meds, they are different. Also remember to remove the carbon from your filter while treating.

Good luck

I've successfully treated clown loaches for ich with just aquarium salt and elevated temperature. I've used about 1/2 the dose on the box for about 10-14 days and temps around 84-85 deg F.

Usually ich goes through its lifecycle very quickly as the temp goes over 80 deg F. This helps by exposing the little bugs to the salt as they pass from the gravel to the fish. They are pretty much invulnerable in the gravel (dormant stage) and once in the fish, well, it's a race on who's going to outlive each longer. It's just a matter of keeping up the treatment as the adults in the fish go through their normal lifecycle and catch the next generation on their way up, until there are no more left.

Hope this helps,
Gary

I have recently treated a Beta tank which had one small CL in with Cardinal Tetras. Being a scaleless fish only certain Ich will be safe. Read the instructions very carefully. You can increase the temp, add extra airation, and turn the light off this will also cause less stress.
Certainly remove the carbon and even keep treating a little bit longer to make sure you have removed all the Ich.

HI, I have 20 clown loaches and I take care of mild attacks by making sure water temps are above 30 degrees, and adding aquarium (rock) salt to the water. However, in your case, it seems like the Ich has advanced. The medicine that I have found to be clown safe is Rid All Anti-ich. The only problem is that the active component is methyl blue, however, it works wonderfully for my boys and I haven't lost one fellow to ich.

properjak,

So how has treatment been going? After more than a week, I'm hoping you're seeing some progress...
