my betta Bailey had fin rot seemed to be improving, could see regrowth, but today when i checked her the bit that had regroen has gone and now it looks as though it is eating away at her body

she is in a 2.5 G WC were every three days although i left it longer this week so has been 5 days with out WC.i have been testing the Water and adding cycle tho and there have been no problems with water Quality.

i have been adding 2 ml of prima fix and 2 ml of mela fix for 10 days. i stopped yesterday as there was what i thought was good regrowth?. should i carry on and up the water changes?(back to one every three days?

or should i try some thing stronger since body rot is preety serious???

can any one recommand a product i can get in the UK? i can get Water life or interpet products easily and thats it.

cheers

GFG

I can't go into too much detail because I don't have the active ingredients for UK products but I came up with these:

Waterlife - Myxazin

Interpet - Anti Fungus and Fin Rot

If you can get the active ingredients I can give you more info but these are what I came up with by browsing their product lines.

you wont get the active ingredients for ANY waterlife prod, they refuse to divulge them!

My recipe is full dose Myxazin and 1/2 dose salt in very clean water, changed every day using a drip syphon method so the fish does not get stressed. Stop feeding if fish is not eating, keep everything scrupulously clean and hope for the best.

This is what I've used with rescued bettas which have developed ilnesses secondary to fin injuries. I'd say it had about a 50% success rate

That's not very helpfull at all. As far as I know you can't get antibiotics there unless you go to a vet so I'm guessing they are some kind of dye preparation, probably methylene blue and other stuff. Should write them some letters and tell them people would have more confidence in their products if they knew what was in them. Or even better make antibiotics available to aquarium hobbyists like they are here.

Just to be safe I would increase aeration and dim the lights on the tank, dye based stuff (if that's what it is) can stress fish out quite a bit. Also watch for ammonia, it could affect your biofilter.
