Be warned he will do it again and again.
I have three very large ones. The last one to jump out escaped through a 1ins gap at the end of the tank. They can be very easly spooked. I have to be extremly careful when I get close to the tank after the lights go out.

Wait a minute,maybe I'm missing something here...

You should never put any fish in a holding tank while you clean the aquarium. You should gravel vacuum a tank with the fishes still inside. Removing the fish from their environment every time you clean is very stressfull for them, which would explain the jumping.
Oh and don't ever take all of the water out of the tank during a cleaning, that will kill all your good bacteria.
Welcome and I hope that helps. O hope your fish is okay!

What size tank is the Bala In??
How big is it?
They are often fine after this
type of jump. Keep an eye on it,
it should be OK.

If this ever happens again, gently move the fish backwards through the water with your hands in order to get the water flowing through the gills. I have personally seen fish immediately recover from a jump induced shock with this method.

Thanks to all for your replys

Im afraid its bad news on the Bala front after "THE INCIDENT" and all at home very upset with me for letting it happen, i dont usually put them in a holding tank but every few months i do like to give the tank a good clean and i do remove the fish for this, the Bala never really recovered from the jump and as the days went on the other fish in the tank started to nip at his/her fins and i think it was suffering and so I took one of the most difficult decisions i have had to make and put the fish out of its misery, I hope i did the right thing and caused as little pain to a very missed part of the home and family
