deschazkody Hobbyist Posts: 119 Kudos: 110 Votes: 77 Registered: 25-Jun-2005	hey my female con is sick again this time popeye last time it was fin rot my question is are some fish more to sickness then others i also have a male con and he never gets anything and is there anything i can do to inprove her overall health my tank is a 20 gal my parimeters are nitrate 20 nitrite 0 am o i keep the temp 78 and do weekly water changes on the dot i hate to see her suffer but i don,t know what elese too do:#(

If they are of no assistence (like the wal-mart near me) then look it up in the profiles of fish on this website. I will tell you that I have never worked with cons so I don't know from experience how hardy they are.

Ask us and we will try and help you. Is there anything else in the tank with the cons? Is the male picking on the female that you know of? How often are you doing water changes and how much water at a time? Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

deschazkody Hobbyist Posts: 119 Kudos: 110 Votes: 77 Registered: 25-Jun-2005	theres only the two cons most of the time they get along every once in a while a chase but its her as much as him doing the chase but he is twice her size i do a weekly water change ph is at a neu 7.2 and i do a 20% change and rotate the side i vac each week as a 20 gal is hard enough to keep stable i got her from a friend i just don't know what her cond were there . just wonder if she got a bad start all together?

I have a lot of ons that tend to be e to popeye and fin rot if the water isn't consistently changed. As with most cichlids, cons produce a lot of ammonia. Though they are often e to disease, I rarely loose a con to a disease alone. Make sure to isolate the sick fish so the others don't pick on it. Cons tend to be able to recover well from most minor diseases.

deschazkody Hobbyist Posts: 119 Kudos: 110 Votes: 77 Registered: 25-Jun-2005	none unless theres a prob i did check when she first got sick amon was zero she is getting better now minus tail its pretty much gone and her sides have scale damage but she is eating now i,m going to try a 30% water change is there any type bottom feeders i can put in with them
