its kind of strange that a fish dosent eat you would think if it got hungry it would eat what ever it could find right but why didnt my betta eat he should have eaten he seemed to be heathey he didnt have ick or eny other sickness. i gave him diffrent opptions of food so i dont under stand. i had him for a short time about a week or so maby less. and he didnt eat. unfortinetly he died because of it . but i still whant to know what i could have done better and how i can preventing it from happening. and if it does happen what can i do to help the fish. tell me what u think and what u know thanks

I have only had my first M Betta 10 days now and he will eat all the foods I give him including eating a pea from my finders.

I was extremly carefull when selecting him several thing I looked for conditions kept at LFS, bright and alert, good colouring, basically no fin damage, and most important how all the other Bettas looked.

I introduced him very slowly to his new temporary home ( a breeding net) I did not feed him for two days and then only introduced food to him very slowly.

It might have been a stress factor, or an illness that killed him not starvation. Or he might not have been used to the new and different foods you were giving him.

Yes, as Keith said it could be something entirely different than not eating...and stress usually plays a big part in a fishes health...

As Keith also said you have to slowly acclimate the fish and let them get used to the new environment. He is using a breeding net to do this in. I did the same, till Psycho jumped out into the real tank (I figure she was ready, huh?)

For feeding my bettas I really like the Hikari Gold Betta food...it has Garlic in it that is supposed to help, make them want to eat, and I've had no problem feeding my bettas this...

And of course you need to add foods slowly don't just dump it all in at once (I'm not saying you did this) But, try something for a couple of days. Make sure his tank stays clean...when my tanks get even a little dirty the bettas get persnickity with meand do weird things...

Of course it could just be that you did get a "bad betta" and sometimes that just happens. Don't feel bad, don't give up, things get better...

Heidi

bettas are particularly full of personality, IMO.
i had one that was most inquisitive and playful. he loved brushing against my hand and always looked at me through the glass. he also was curious of other fish business.

another one was stressful and shy, and seemed to suffer from his home. after two weeks i got him back to the store because of his mental problems.

i also seen a female betta that loved sitting out of the water for a sunbath. she jumped on a plastic wall, sat there, and got back in the water only minutes later. she did that again and again.

don't give up. bettas are fun to watch and interact with. some of them a little banged-up in the head, others are confident and out-going.

I can say Lindy showed me what to look for when selecting a good M Betta. I had no intention of buying him for at least 4-5 weeks.
Out of at least 15 at the LFS he was exactly what I was looking for colour wise. If all the other factors were not there I would have left him there.

Its the old addage think twice act once and some times go through it all again just to be sure.

true, true. there are many bettas out there, and they "circulate" rather fast. it's not a big issue to wait for "mr. right"
