I babysat a friends while she was overseas for the good part of a year. Nuttin'. No spikes. No flowers. Zip. She collected it and spied spikes within weeks. She was kind enough to say my lead up care contributed. But I think she had *the touch*. My mum bought me an orchid as a moving gift but I couldn't take it with me because my balcony gets full sun. On a balcony you can't move things for aspects like a proper garden. Congrats! ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

Otherwise known as the Comet Orchid. Flowers have a spur that is 30 cm long, and it was this flower that led Darwin to predict that there existed an insect with a proboscis long enough to reach the nectaries at the bottom of the spur. The insect in question was later found - Darwin's Hawkmoth, Xanthopan morganii praedicta. I gather it's not a difficult plant to obtain if you're a regular in the world of Orchids. |

There are many orchids/flowers that have a story behing them. To be honest I could not afford to run a heated hot house.
