No, I'm in Northern California enjoying my 80 degree sunny weather in the middle of October.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

What she said.

Also, for the record, being my place of ancestral birth, I'd have to say that the Rochester area still rocks like mad, and snow is damn awesome--just not every day.

Ditto for me....except the California part. I'm down in tropical South Texas (15 miles north of Brownsville) and it is currently 90 deg. F here. I was sweating on my lunch break.

Ah well, I never cared for snow much anyway.

It's not so much the snow, but the lack of power to 400,000 people due to over 30% of our trees being knocked down that's the problem. I live on grand island this year and there aren't any large trees to go taking out power lines, so I guess I'm lucky.

This is all that's left BTW it's supposed to be 60 on Tuesday or Wednesday.

My job took another hit this week because of this "Record Breaking Lake Effect Snowstorm".

Grand Island(which I haven't had the pleasure of leaving in the last couple days due to driving ban) drains really well into the niagara river which is flood controlled by the hydroelectric power stations. They can take enough water to "stop" niagara falls(and have done so on two occasions) so it's very unlikely that the niagara river will ever flood on this side of the falls. The island could flood, but it would take quite a bit, it's been rainy here the last couple weeks, and with this in addition we still aren't driving through lakes or anything.

There is some standing water and the streams around here are full, but we haven't gotten the additional rain that the weather channel was talking about, so I think we're in great shape on the island. I'm not sure about other places though. I'm sure it could be flooded elsewhere, like amherst and clarence. And I think most places have their power back now...I have work today and class tomorrow. Some places are probably still without though.

Just an update. 22,000+ people still without power, 13 people dead.

Having been around a bit this week, the damage to trees is really extensive. Property damage isn't so bad. Some places were pretty flooded. The creek I was taking stream samples in a week ago are up over my head. Most schools(except mine) are expected to resume monday.

Hi Rjm,
My brother lives in Lyons, and my sister in Spencerport.
We were brought up in Greece. I left at 18 and with the
navy, and a family, never went back. My brother is a
volunteer member of the "Fire/Police" there.
It is a small world.
When I was growing up there, the "Lake Effect" snows
could dump 102 inches in one storm.

Well Hello Fallout... Long time no see.

Hank and I moved back to Buffalo last January.

What a storm! We are still cleaning up the mess. The storm itself was interesting to say the least. Lightning, Thunder, Hail, Rain, Sleet, Wind and SNOW, snow, snow. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen alot. The aftermath resembled what my hometown in Ohio looked like after a tornado passed through it. Hank took some pictures. I'll see if I can post one or two on here.
