I complained to an admin of another Fish message board who wrote an article about what fish could go in a 1 gal. Some of his options included sea horses and guppies. I brought it up and this is how he responded:

"I wrote an article about what you can keep in a one gallon bowl a LONG time ago.

http://www.petfish.net/1gbowl.htm

It's sort of controversial, but Ive never actually been confronted about it.
I am willing to back it up, come on, hit me. "

Hes an admin and actually wrote that article. So now i really would like to inform him on why some of his options are just plain bad.

If anyone would like to give some good reasons and help me form an arguement, id be very grateful.

Far as I know, seahorses are REALLY delicate. You'd have to ask the saltwater people on that, but that's the impression I get. Besides, wouldn't a tank this size be terribly hard to keep stable for seahorses?

Aren't bumblebee gobies a bit more care-intensive? And there's debate over brackish or freshwater, though from what I gather, they can be found in both in the wild.

I certainly wouldn't put a mating pair of guppies in a one gallon tank. Females are much larger than males, for one thing, and "proper" ratio is 1M:2F. You could maybe put a single male guppy in there, but... seems cruel, they're rather social.

I wrote up my own article on the subject (well, sorta, I covered more than just one gallons) and it's up for review [link=here]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/General%20Freshwater/55574.html?200503090056" style="COLOR: #9900FF[/link] if you want to take a look.

Er, a seahorse in a 1 gallon????

Four of them in a fifty gallon is nearer the mark, I'd have thought.

keep in a one gallon bowl .

Yes you could but for how long, They would be shipped in far less water. The answer could be hrs to a few weeks if you are lucky to survive them that long

How long is what I would be concentrating on. Would they be healthy??? . What would be their life expectency be?

I am sure you could come up with more questions along those lines. The answers requiring a definate answer.

Contact a marine center and ask them what is the minium an average aquarium keeper could keep them in those conditions. By having that qualified statement you have some actual facts to back you up.

All the best please keep us informed.

I'm curious as to what seahorses he is talking about

Is he discussing the really small pygmy seahorses? Or the standard type? Either way I don't think it is feasible in a 1 gallon for very long.

I did keep the pygmy seahorses in a 5 gallon back in the early 70's when I didn't know any better, however I did manage to keep them alive for approximately a year.
