I am wondering what you all think about these as aquarium ornaments. Do you think it would be safe?

I am looking at ebay as there isn't anything Egyptian in any of the LFS here. I want to have an Egyptian theme to my next tank.

I'd personally be worried about varnishes and oils they've used on these things, I certainly wouldn't use them

The Egyptian theme would work well though, I hope you find what you're looking for

You have no idea of what it is made from and personally I would not take the risk.

Question why an Egyptian theme or are you doing a Nile theme?

I just wanted to have a tank that has sand with the Pyramid and sphynx thing going on. The more I search though the less I think I will be able to do this. *sigh* I'll keep searching though.

Try your local ceramics studio. Fired, ceramic clay will not effect your water chemistry and food-safe glazes will not leech toxins into your tank. If the store doesn't have something Egyptian, try sculping it yourself. It's nice to be able to say "Yeah, I made that."

Hmmmm..... I may have to take a LONG drive to find a ceramics studio or the tools to make my own. I live in a wittle bitty town.

I am keeping my fingers crossed though. I am sure I can find something. I can search for ceramics online. Would that be safe?

Personally, I'd leave this alone.

Not just because of the risks of untreated stone, but because I'm a fully-paid-up member of the 'natural' school of aquarium furnishing. Live plants, bogwood, natural water-weathered rocks that originate from streams or other watercourses, that's my idea of decor. And my fish seem to agree with me too, if last night's double Characin spawning orgy is any indication!

Made of stone, I'd say it's likely safe. Most I could see you having to worry about is a PH shift.

I think an egyptian theme would be a cool idea I'd love to see some pics when you start.
