Well I'm sure a lot of you guys have heard about the latest [link=quake]http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=1&u=/ap/20041226/ap_on_re_as/indonesia_earthquake_42" style="COLOR: #FF6699[/link] in Indonesia not too long ago, I believe it started tidal waves and had some very devastating affects.

I know Bensaf is over there...and possibly some other FProfillians too...

I hope everyone's okay. *crosses fingers* My heart goes out to the victims and the families of this disaster...

And Ben, please reassure us that you and the shishies are okay, AsAp!

Please those of you downunder let us know that you are ok, if you can...

Folks on this end, is there anyway of getting ahold of those affected by this earthquake? Of course there is the fact that they may be ok but be without electricity/phone/etc...

Our hopes and prayers are with ya'll, Heidi

Hi,

Thank you all for the concern. Nice to know people care Being getting calls and text messages all day.

All fine here. Jakarta is a good distance east of Sumatra, the affected area, so we escaped. There was a bit a shudder in the apartment, but to be honest I've felt worse ones since I've been here. Don't know if any of you have ever felt one, very strange eery feeling. You feel it in the pit of your stomach before you actually notice the shaking and vibrations.Being an Irish lad, I'm not used to these kind of things, need a strong whiskey every time.

An absolutely terrible devasting event, it's effected so many parts of SE Asia, seems the resultant Tsunami's did a lot more damage then the quake itself. Unfortunately it hit one of the more remote parts of Indonesia and access and communication is difficult.Local TV is alot less discerning on the images that are shown on TV, so the local news is heartbreaking to watch, can't take close ups of corpses and have reverted to CNN. Hopefully the government here can react with a bit more then their usual apathy and ineptitude and can resist the usual temptation to steal the much needed aid from these desperate victims.

Again thank you for your thoughts.

I have friends out in Sri Lanka - the only way I will know they are OK is if they arrive back at uni in January, if they don't, I'll know what happened

Thanks for the concern everybody. We have had deaths in the East coast of India, but I happen to be far away on the West coast. We have some relatives down south and on the east coast and hopefully, they are safe too. Havent had word from them yet tho.
