I'm not too good with gamefish though. Have you tried putting calamine lotion on the bug bites? I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Not sure what it is specifically to be honest. Seems to be a long tom which seems to be a type of gar. Maybe this one? http://biodiversity.ea.gov.au/cgi-bin/species-bank/sbank-treatment2.pl?id=60681 It was female and had about 3 egg sacs inside (I didn't go near the business end as we were on a sandbar and I didn't have enough hands to be useful without dunking my reel), if I'd noticed that I would have tossed her back. And there is no calamine in the house no antihistamines left either I've googled that too and they said to rub vegemite on them, so i'm tempted to give that a shot. |

Gars will have big, bony scales while the scales of Long Toms are small. Also, from what I've noticed in pictures, young gars tend to have convex tails while those of young Long Toms are convex. It seems in both species, however, the caudal fin becomes flat as the fish matures. As for the Vegemite, it wouldn't hurt to try it. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Rid does work, spray it onto your hands first then rub it onto your legs. The other way is to cover up. You must eat a lot of it at least three times a day and certainly long before hand. Also take very strong V B (can not thik of which one at the moment) with V C and at least for a month before any trips and a month on returning. The way it works is that the body oozzes an odour that they do not like. Also keep away from any perfumed soaps or any thing sweet that will attract the biting nasties. I have only been bitten once in eight trips up north and that was by a small spider inland Aust That info came from an EX army doctor stationed up north Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do.
