Main purpose of course was the diving. I thought I'd share some of the pics. Without a proper housing, and diving on a 'tour' I was unable to get what I wanted, but did my best to grab a few interesting shots. Had to do a countdown to make sure I didnt forget Very first View of the reefs Finally found somewhere to have breakfast/lunch Back to our room on the 12th floor of the Cairns International Had to spend a bit of time at the pool to test out new fins and dive boots. Oddly the water the next day was the same color as the pool! Coming next: Diving the Reef. And soon The Daintree. |

Getting kitted up On our dives we got to see lots, sea turtles, coral, Giant Clams Little fish Bigger Fish Seascapes Sleeping Fishies Stripy Fish Big Corals Little Corals Fish with Anemones And trigger Fish In the end the crew pretty much had to toss my gear bag off the boat Once we got back to the hotel, Adam decided to make Aviation History Before we went out for a healthy and filling dinner Coming Next: The Daintree. And keep tuned for The Gold Coast |

Oh well I suppose launching paperforce one onto the roof of the casino across the street was better than other things he wanted to use the balcony for! *huff* Boys! ^_^ |

And actually being under the ocean like that must be an experience like being in a different world, which it actually is. It's no wonder you two love it so much. |

On our second day we drove up through the Daintree Rainforest. Upon the suggestion of our concierge we modified our plans to include Cape Tribulation which is where Capt. Cook ran aground and had to stop for repairs. So we started with breakfast on the balcony. The large black roof in the background is part of the casino, apparently they have a rainforest in there, adults $20something. Then went in search of the post office in order to mail a Bday present back for my sister. Despite the fact that this looks to me like a post office, and says "post" on the outside, it is not in fact the Cairns Post office. The lack of the big red letter P on the outside should have given it away. After purchasing a few supplies it was off to find Capt Cooks Tribulation. He was easy enough to find. We drove north right along the coastline at the foot of the mountains Which meant pulling off to the side of the road put us a few steps from the beach Most beaches had vinegar stations We only saw one with stinger nets On the other side of the road were the sugar cane fields, we saw a number of the trains running And were warned plenty of times to watch for the trains. They even run PSA's on tv up there to warn people not to stand or play on the sugar cane train tracks. They're smaller than a regular train, but I suppose would still hurt pretty bad. Other signs were kindly written out by hand. We could have used a sign like this to help ID the Kapok that Gone_Troppo ID'd for us Some signs were there for a very real threat, although I never saw a croc And other signs took a little bit of reading. This one explains what happens to a cassawary after it's been run over, it turns into a speed bump. From the top of the mountain (hills) you could see all the way back out to the reefs over the canopy of the Daintree Rainforest. And back down the mountain (hill) again and we'd arrived at Cape Tribulation. As historical as it was, there were no signs explaining it. They run a ferry across the river, still no crocs The trees look just like they've formed from the red clay soil A lot of the critters were just as happy in the trees as on the ground After such a long drive up and back there was only one thing to do in an area with plenty of water... Take a nice long bath The next morning Breakfast at the french cafe next door was finally achieved With crepes for breakfast dessert Then it was time to say goodbye to Cairns, head home, and get ready for the Gold Coast. |

Is it as beautiful as it looks in pictures? I've always wanted to go to Cape Tribulation, it looks positively idyllic (and full of mozzies) |

Maybe if he'd followed his own advice he'd have made it home? Well, if warm and muggy is your cup of tea, cape trib and cairns are for you. The weather finally convinced me it was summer as that's what I'm used to. Oddly I don't think I got one single mozzie bite! But we did spend most of the trip in the car. Being only the start of the wet season there wasn't much in the way of waterfalls. Ye caught me in the middle of posting, I'll have to hurry up (*cracks whip at photoshop*) ^_^ |

I hate when I forget the dressing for my salad! Don't you? They're for marine stingers. Some are so tiny that you don't see them. In some areas they set up the nets that are supposed to stop the stingers, but I have a feeling a few might get through. And they must have people that don't know not to go in the water otherwise they wouldn't need the stations as much. |

When I do the FW dives I sometimes see one that's not gonna wake up. I always have to fight the urge to shoot to the surface or throw up or both. Totally Forgot To Post This one It was my favorite shot, got posted in the premie thread, but with the change of laptops twice over I guess it got lost somewhere |
