I'm afraid I do kinda agree with Tim on this one. My friend from school (known him 20 years) died in a car accident on Friday night. Hundreds of people will miss him and his family's life will never be the same again, but it's not all over the news and it's certainly not less sad just because he wasn't famous.

Anyone dying is tragic, especially if they are young, but I think it's important to remeber those who you don't hear about as well the ones you do.

Here's to Dan, and anyone else who we're missing...

I remember just as much stock footage of comic book dork fans crying over the death of superman the cartoon character then there were of christopher reeve. That is sad.

what is so very sad, and bitterly ironic, is that his foundation dedicated so many resources to cure and left care alone. What killed him? a pressure sore, one of the biggest challenges to SCI care.

i am glad to see that this thread is finally being edited for content. i can't believe some of the things people have been saying here whether you are sad or not, you should still show proper respect for the dead, and unfortunately it seems that is beyond some people.

On another note, while many people die every day, it doesn't mean that one cannot mourn the death of a good actor and a decent individual.

Why was my post deleted? All I was saying is that its natural to be 'selfish' in that way. I also gave bryant a ribbing but hey its bryant.

Tim, I totally agree with your point that because somebody's a celebrity, that doesn't make their life any more valuable than anybody else's.

For reasons very personal to me, I find some of the comments made by people in this thread quite upsetting. This is a very sensitive subject, so let's all be respectful of each other's feelings here.

Which is why they have been edited. DRO

Thanks

I agree with Tim. It sad news he has died but it sad news when everyone dies just as he was Superman people know him and peopel don`t know people like my nan and stuff. My nan, when she died it was loads worse than Chris Reeves dieing but now Chris Reeves is dead everyone is on bout it and when my nan died nobody really cared except close family. Most people on her (I expect nearly) all have even met Chris Reeves and they care bout him which I find really unusual, for all you know he could have been a selfish, mean hearted, pain in the neck person who was greedy and didnt care for others

Tim is all but wrong

I'm sorry but it's the truth

It's bad that he died, but people die every day

fine, i can understand why you might not think it's any big deal that a celebrity dies. but the reason why it is bigger news than the deaths that happen every day is because celebrities are known to millions of people all over the world. it doesn't make the "normal" person's death any less important, it just means that someone who is known ALL OVER THE WORLD is gone.

Pretty unfortunate.

Nikki Finke in Los Angeles is reporting that actor Christopher Reeve is dead, according to sources close to the actor. He died suddenly Sunday. News of his death has not been reported publicly yet. His family will make an announcement Monday at the earliest. Reeve was just mentioned Friday in the second live presidential debate by John Kerry. Noting he was a friend of the paralysed Reeve, Kerry said he was in favor of further stem cell research because Reeve could walk again one day thanks to such science

It's up on his website now too. http://www.christopherreeve.org/News/News.cfm?ID=901&c=30

It's so sad. And he has a movie coming out this month too, which he worked so hard to complete, The Brooke Ellison Story.

he will never see the cure he worked so hard to promote. Still, his actions have done a lot for the SCI community and his legacy will remain!
