Contemplating a 4WD Need Help | |
JQW Fish Addict Posts: 869 Kudos: 758 Registered: 09-Apr-2003 | Hey guys, I'm contemplating on getting my self a second hard 4WD. Good news, my parents are paying for it. It will only be me driving it, sometimes to pickup my gf, so I won't need a 7-seater, just a soft 4WD will do. Now, I'm not sure whice one to concentrate on. I've looked at a few options, but still unable to make up my mind. Can yous please help out and pick the car you prefer or would suit me. Something about me: 18 M Longterm R/ship Quiet Not too big on fashion. Oh, and I'll need the car about 3 days a week to do 35km trips. Current prefered, Black Toyota RAV4, maybe it will look bit girlish. What are your thoughts on a RAV4 for a guy? |

You're talking about a gas engine vs a diesel engine. A standard vs an automatic etc. You really don't look at working it too hard so maybe the rav4 is going to be your way to go. My brother drives one hrug: I'm into much bigger trucks than they sell over there. Koi Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn. |

dan76 Big Fish Always Reading Posts Posts: 343 Registered: 08-Jul-2003 | the rav 4 will go faster and has more power. but i wouldnt consider one ,i just dont like them, will you need a 4wd , do you have rough roads , mud etc or do you just want an suv? if you dont really need proper 4wd look at a ford territory , around the same price ,heaps bigger and drives just like sedan, lots more comfy than a small 4wd |

Alot more bang for your buck. Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

JQW Fish Addict Posts: 869 Kudos: 758 Registered: 09-Apr-2003 | Ah......after reconsidering, I've dumped the idea of a RAV4. It's a bit too girlish.... I won't need it for off road driving. Just in the city, smooth drive, but may go into the country for weedends. Nothing serious for off road. Ford Territory is too expensive according to my budget, and it seats 7 (too big). Now I'm kind of comtemplating between a Ford Escape or a Jeep Cherokee Sports. So yea...... the Escape is good, suits my budget. Just want something of decent size that sit up higher than others on the road. |

Also what always helps me decide is what kind of dealership maintainence is best rated in your area. For instance I really liked the dodge trucks 4 years ago when we needed a new truck but the best deal and dealership was 200 miles away and closer with a number one consumer rating was a chevy dealership. Really is important if you have problems down the road. Good luck on your next ride! |

I really don't think there is a need for such a negative tone I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

At least here in the US people from rural areas tend to look at city people who drive pickup trucks and SUVs funny... believe me I've been on the receiving end of that, but I *do* use my truck to go to relatively remote places for field labs (I'm a wildlife major). ><> |

He could have said it with way more tact, IMHO. Making an asumption about the reasons for someone owning a car, ba At least here in the US people from rural areas tend to look at city people who drive pickup trucks and SUVs funny... believe me I've been on the receiving end of that, but I *do* use my truck to go to relatively remote places for field labs (I'm a wildlife major). All the more reason not to judge people because of arbitrary things, like cars. No one should have to put up with weird looks or have to explain themselves because of a car they bought. there was talk of banning 4WD's around schools in the UK because of all the kids who got injured/killed. the parents did NOT need a 4WD for the school run. so Tim sorta has a point having said that, we have 2 4WD's ourselves but we use them on our farm. Obviously there are safety issues with big cars in cities. My arguement lies not in the point itself, but how it was made. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

Making an asumption about the reasons for someone owning a car, ba I have no idea what he looks like, nor do i care. I made no assumptions for the reason for anyone owning a vehicle. Oh, and great for your friend. I know several people who own trucks for commercial use. |

JQW Fish Addict Posts: 869 Kudos: 758 Registered: 09-Apr-2003 | Thanks guys...... Umm....anyway, I just want to find something that will sit me higher on the road. No offroad, no cross country, well maybe go fishing but that's all. And something relatively compact but not too dicky. I think at this stage i still prefer Ford Escape. It would be good if someone can make some comments specifically on Ford Escapes. ie. is it worth $15000AU to buy a second hand Escape that's post 2000 and under 50000km. Cheers, Jimmy |

Definitely one of the most capable stock vehicles out there and you either love or hate the way they look. http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/future/fjcruiser.html?s_van=GM_TN_FUTURE_FJ Set to release in either Feb. or March. ________________________________________________ I like Led Zeppelin. |
