OK. So like we have moved offices and we are growing so we have decided to have a server. So what do I have to do???

I have the computer with 2 HDD (120 GIG each) that have been setup as a raid I think they call it. So they are mirrored.

I need to setup it so I can have all data stored on the server and also have all emails stored on it as well so we can sit at any computer to access our own emails. So I am thinking that would be profiles???

If anyone can help me on this. Are there any websites to show me what I need to do and what I have to do to achive this.????

I have the microsoft action pack which comes with Windows Server 2003 and also Exchange Server. So I am thinking these are the 2 programs that I need to put onto the computer to start doing this.

What else and any Ideas????

shared directorys for the data. and yes remote user profiles.

i have done similar, but for home usage. as far as web sites. just search your favorite search engine or use the help function. and then theres always the one site alot of people hate, microsoft, or the windows site and use their help sections.

then again, i hear there are books readily available on doing this as well.

Hi,
This is not the site for that question. Free advice is
just that...free.
This is your business. Contact a company in your area that
specializes in Computers, Software, and such. Invest in
your business, it will pay dividends in the long run.
Heck, you might even find out you don't need expensive
servers, and the aquired knowledge to run them.

RAST, I'd be finding a qualified person to set you up something secure, as the last thing you want is someone stuffing up your server because you missed a tiny step somewhere.

try the APC or atomic forums for more advice

Hi Rast, second what Call said - get a professional to help you. I've never done it but I've watched experienced admins be reduced to tears by this

Server configuration is a frustrating, fiddly piece of crap. Setup one flag wrong, mischeck the wrong box, set the wrong path and it just wont work. Expect round after round of diagnostics to get the thing operational.

Also with your data redundancy, make sure that you manually back up your data onto CD or get professional software to do this - Veritas is the standard.

Still if you have time, setting up a server from scratch would be a really rewarding, educational experience and would help you diagnose any problems in the future - and there WILL be problems Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I have a TAFE guy who will be helping me as well so would rather learn and get things right and actually be able to troubleshoot the results or porblems. As that is what I am here to do. As well as a million other things as well!
