That's got to be an extremely fast shutter on your camera, or or really good manufacturing of the propeller blades, so that they look like one as they pass.

Can you identify this small plane please. It flew us from Horn Isl to Poruma Isl in the Torris Straits.

I thought it may have been a dash 8! Nice pic.
Cheers, James.

Nice pic keith.

Speaking of speeding in the snow, I was in Hull Quebec last year, during a snowstorm (which needs some explanation. Think about a foot of snowfall every hour, COLD and WINDY) we were out on the 407, a major highway. Those crazy Quebeccers were doing about 80-90 mph! It was insane, we could barely see more than 3 feet in front of us in places, there were people in the ditch and everyone was still speeding.

All good reasons not to live in Quebec.

From an aviation perspective an aircraft at "cruise altitude" may only be running the engines at possibly 50% of available power (depending on aircraft type) and the propeller rpm would be such that a reasonably quick shutter speed would stop the prop. At higher altitudes there are fewer air particles in the atmosphere therefore less power required to produce greater speed than at lower altitude.
Cheers, James.

Thanks for the explanation, and Babel....I'm from buffalo, we drive a little bit faster through the snow, at least on the highways.

Iso is the speed of the "film" (how much light it needs)
Fstop is how wide the aperture that allows light in is.

Speed can be great fun to play with.

Given how bright the sky looks in keiths shot I'm guessing he had enough light to stop the propeller....1/1000sec is fairly standard on most digitals. With my shot, I intentionally slowed it down to increase the sense of motion driving thru the snow.....driving thru the snow @25mph...but do not try it @home

Nice photo Kieth You must have one heck of a flash to get that much light for that fast of an exposure (and a good sunny day...but that's not too hard to find above the clouds )

I stopped a 3000RPM cooling fan in my computer today with my friend's camera

I'm not sure what ISO is in relation to photography, but F Stop is like the apperature of the lens. It's like how big of a hole the light sensors (in digital...or film in film cameras) can see thru. The lower the F Stop the narrower the depth of focus is. For example, you'd use an F Stop of 7.8 to take a picture of someone's face for it to be comepletely in focus, with the background out of focus. If you wanted the tip of their nose in focus, you'd use the lowest setting (2.8 on my mom's camera). If you wanted it all to be in focus you'd use the highest setting (I believe it's 11 on my mom's camera). Sometimes it helps to have a professional photographer as a mom

I was trying to take some photos in a small 6o seater plane and I noticed this. It appears that the propeller has stoped. I can assure you it had not.

I have a Nikon 4500 set at Auto and Full Resolution.

Hi Keith,
That's a Britten Norman Islander (Islander for short). There's also a version called a "trislander" with a third engine on top of the fuselage behind the wing.
Cheers, James.

Thank you James In that one I flew as co pilot excellent for photo shots. A very noisey plane though, ear plugs provided. Still a lot better than the very old single prop Cesnar (Spelling) From Bamaga to Horne many years ago.

I'm not surprised Keith. The Islander is easily 30 years old. The only soundproofing in that bird is what you had in your ears
Cheers, James.

p.s....it's Cessna...
