I live right next to the sea I can see flatfish, hermit crabs, gobies, cool shoaling fish, every day if I like

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

I live 2klm from our bay and 6klm from Bass Straight Ocean next major land fall the South pole. Also close to several creeks & small inlets. Depending on the time of the year from breeding fish in the shalows to man eating shaks in the chanels, also the odd whale which will come within 100metres of the shore with their young. Is that a big enough mixture for you.

Well, I live two blocks from a creek, but I don't think I've ever seen fish there... However, we have a lakehouse in SE Michigan where my tootsies can get nibbled on my curious fishies any day of the week.

I love laying on our dock with my head over the side, staring down at the fishies. We had a huge school of something that were shaped like dwarf gouramis the other week and tiny little flashes of neon-sized fish, too. I keep pondering getting a biiiig tank and taking a slice of Lake Paw Paw into my house. You know, steal a few lily pads, some of the plant life... a fish or two dozen... Okay, that's probably not terribly legal, but it makes for a nice day dream!

I live about a half mile from a decent sized river...I've never seen any big fish in there myself (too murky) but some people go fishing in there and catch a few fish...

There's tons of minnow and fry in the river tho...I've cought many of them as food for my cray etc....

Sticklebacks, pipefishes, salmon and some others I can't remember are native and common around here.

Plus, we have a whole bunch of introduced species, like sunfish, various minnows, livebearers, etc...

i live literally 2 blocks from a nice sized river with some BIG fish that i'm not sure if they're pike or something shaped like them. all i know is that a few years ago i saw some 8-10 year old kids running down the street with a fish as big as them they caught out of the river

plus i live about 1-2 miles from one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the entire world, lake michigan. but the only time i see fish is during the seasonal die-off when they wash on shore and smell really bad

*ponders where moondog is* I'm twenty minutes west of Lake Michigan as the crow flies. (Go, Chi-town) You can catch some decent fish there (dad came back with his limit of salmon within an hour or two) but most fish I see there are pretty much as you said... dead and smelly.

As for our house on Lake Paw Paw in Michigan, I've seen Gar and Pike and all sorts of fish. There's supposed to be blue gill and crappie and others, too, but we rarely catch anything. I have more fun watching them than "feeding" them... they always eat my bait, dang it, and never come in to say hello.
