do you feel bad when you use feeder fish to feed predators, or is it just me. its like who am i to choose he dies and who lives.

i never used feeder fish(goldfish/killies) that much b4, but since i have a large mouth and gar it is a tough time as i only use the feeders as a last resort if they dont eat for a few days. so this is a new feeling.

I cant do it. Little fish that are used for feeders are too cute The only feeders that I bought became pets, and I have found some real gems. ^_-

Flakes and pellets! Flakes and pellets!

none of my fish are that large yet, but i'll believe in this food chain, and i will be once they are ready, right now its brine shrimp, soon will be ghost shrimp.

as far as ethics? nothing to debate. think about it, this is nature, how could fish survive in the open waters if they didnt eat other fish? nobodys going to feed them.

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction

Hi,
I guess, I never really thought about it. Some fish eat
other fish, and that's the way it is. I can't begin to
count the number of times I've tossed a few pairs of
guppies into a tank, and figured that the fry would provide
either snacks or actual food for the other inhabitants.

In a sense, you are correct. When you dip that net into
the tank full of feeders, you are choosing who is to live
and who is to die that day. In the wild, those fish would
have vast areas to roam, things to hide in, and behind,
and opportunities to survive. It is the slow, sick, or
inopportune ones who don't survive. "Survival of the
Fittest" is the phrase generally used.
In our tanks, those opportunities are either
non-existent, or few and far between.

I suspect many form attachments to their pets be they
feeders, or predator. I suspect that they have similar
qualms as you in determining the human selection vs
natural selection. Others have the attachment to the
predator and not the food.

I seem to fall in the latter category.

Frank
