I was just wondering what happens to someones pond outside if there is a flood. Do the fish get washed away or is there like a net you can put over your pond to keep them in. Also, in the case of a tsunami, like in borneo/sumatra, how did that effect the fish? I mean, that was saltwater mixing in with freshwater.

Yes you can lose and also gain native fish if your pond floods. There's not really a good way to prevent it except don't build a pond too close a natural body of water in an area that could flood. Otherwise best to stock with native fish. I'm sure some fish(and other critters) die when there are tsunamis.

This also applies to fish tanks inflooded homes. Saying that not only fish are washed/released into areas where they should not be.
One big river flooded in tropical Aust and there were crocks all over the place.
I know in Aust after a flood the rivers and creeks were filled with all sorts of non native fish. This is one of the reasons for our very strict quarnteen laws. In Vic a river flooded and the flood waters went through a live trout farm releasing many non native species into the river. Many were caught by fisherman as trophy fish.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info
