Hi All,
As I mentioned yesterday, I wrote back to Judy asking for
an address that might receive mail and flowers, and also
mentioning that local members would like to visit Gary
if possible and care for his tanks if appropriate.
So far, I have not had any response to my email.

No Cory-Di, You phrased it quite well, in my opinion. And it is something that we should keep in mind. In my mind I will never forget my Grandaddy's second stroke, as it was the worst of the two. It was this one that he did not recover from, though he was able to go home it took it's toll on Grandma. I truly hope that is not the strength of this stroke one Gary, or that it is worse than that. I'm hoping it was a lighter one where recovery is possible, though he will have to work at it to become successful.

Again my thoughts and prayers are for him and his wife. Heidi

I'd like to understand what 'unrecoverable' means. I know of one person who never left the hospital and suffered several more strokes in a weeks time before passing on.

I've not had much experience with people who have had strokes to get any idea what condition Gary is in.

I just thought it would be nice to offer the help to Gary's wife if there is any chance that he could come home, it would be wonderful for him to see his tanks hadn't missed a beat (versus empty tanks).

Its like losing someone from a great big family. Thoughts go out for garyroland and family.

It's a shame that it takes something like this to make us all realise just how important we all are in our own little way. Make sure you tell your loved ones and friends what they mean to you before you regret missing the opportunity.

I've just received this email from Gary's wife, Judy:

Hi Frank,

I'm sorry to tell you that Gary cannot have visitors other than family.

His condition right now is poor. We are praying for a miracle.

I'm feeding the fish just fine and know someone that used to work at our local pet hop who will help me maintain them for now.

I thank all of you for your well wishes. I will let Gary know how wonderful you have been.

I have replied that we will honor her request, join her
in their prayers, and hope for the best.
I have also asked her to keep me posted should the situation
change. I told her that many want to send cards and flowers
of support and those nearby want to visit to encourage Gary
and his family.

I'm so glad to know that Gary is conscious and able to comprehend enough for his wife to communicate. That is positive.

Hang tough, Gary!

I remember what Gary always tells people about aging fish. He says, "Old fish don't die - they just fade away".

I'm so glad we didn't let Gary fade away. I'm glad we noticed he was missing and have the opportunity to offer thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

I was off the board for a couple of weeks at the end of Jan./beginning of Feb., and just found out what happened.

I literally have tears in my eyes.

Frank, thank you so much for emailing and please convey our heartfelt thanks to his wife for letting us know. So often in cyberworld, people just fade away with no word. At least we know.

Do we have any members near Vero Beach that could at least offer Gary's wife a hand in dealing with the fish? Hopefully, she has someone that can help her. She doesn't need all that right now.

I do hope he beats the odds.

I can't believe it. Gary is and was a father to me in the fish world. I think we should rename the MVM award to the GaryRoland award. Gary is and was the greatest member this site has EVER had.

Hi Everyone.
Because Gary and I exchanged emails behind the scenes
so to speak, I wrote him as I said I would.
Today, I received this message from his wife:

Hi,

This is Gary's wife.

Gary had a stroke last Friday. He is in the hospital in poor condition.

It is not likely that he will recover.

He has truly enjoyed the FP site.

I have asked Judy to tell him at an appropriate time
that we will all miss him and that they have our
condolences.
To that Susan and I added that they would be in our prayers.

I really miss Gary's dry sense of humor, he always makes me laugh, even though at times I have to wonder why. I hope the doctors are wrong on the prognoses, and he is back soon. Frank keep us up to date if you get any other information...
