I've been working on revamping the tanks here too.

Saw they have torpedo barbs here in oz now, 3/$120 ...maybe they'll come down in price in 10 years.

Well the addition is finally finished, the house refinanced, and I'm awash in boxes that must be sorted through and the contents either put in a place, donated, or trashed. The solar room has a slate floor that is exposed to the sunlight to warm it during the day and release its heat in the night time. The room will have a small children's wading pool with a water feature, platies, some guppies, and plants. The back of the house will house my main tank and that of course will be a lush planted jungle.

My first attempt at setting up a tank was a disaster. I put some MTS snails in the tank and some small tetras, and the snails died as soon as they opened up and the fish all within two days! Purchased a copper test kit and discovered that I had copper and other heavy minerals in the water. My next purchase was a charcoal filter system for the kitchen sink. I tested the water out of the filter and found zero for copper and heavy minerals.

Next step will be setting up the tank. The pond will come later in the summer. With two attack house cats, I'm afraid that I'm going to have to put a water absorbing carpet around the pond to cut down on water patches from wet kitty foot prints. The water depth will only be about 6-8 inches (will come up to their belly hair) and when they see the fish swimming in the water, it could be a free-for-all.

Yes..i now breed poultry. There are plans to start a small tank up again soon.
