How did you spend the day? The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. - Oscar Wilde |

My first aussie day was spent in the states I have another year to go before I get a aussie day in person. I wonder if they'd revoke my visa if I were to try and put hot dogs on a BBQ...especially if they were tofu pups . ^_^ |

First time we played with 4 people, and first time that the game has ever been played to completion (tis LONG and complicated)! Major celebration! Oh, and we had a barbie. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/quiz/default.aspx?quizid=334 I scored 19/20... buggered up Waltzing Matilda of all things! |

Here's a pic of me just before we left home. A whole bunch of friends from my gym running group, as well as hubby, step daughter & niece joined in as well. It was a lot of fun. Cheers TW |

And here's an official government spiel on why we celebrate it today:- "Australia Day, 26 January, is a national day of celebrations where the people of Australia come together to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. Australia Day is a time to reflect upon what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation - our people, our fragile yet enduring land, our rich Indigenous culture, our great diversity, and our celebrated freedom and democracy. These characteristics have contributed to Australia 's unique identity and culture, and have made it the great nation that we celebrate today. Australia Day is celebrated across the country and is observed as a public holiday in all states and territories. It involves formal ceremonies including flag raisings, citizenship ceremonies and the presentation of community awards, and a variety of local events and activities ranging from damper making to thong throwing competitions to community barbeques. (eg. my local community held an Australia Day Fun Run/Walk) Australia Day celebrations aim to capture the true spirit of Australia Day, by encouraging the participation of all Australians, regardless of age, ethnicity or culture, to come together to celebrate what's great about our nation." & yep, the pool did look fun Cheers TW |
