I have 4 of these little guys. One of them has been out of his shell for 24 hrs. It has tried a few new shells on but they arent up to its standards! How do I get it to take a shell?

Anyone got any other tips for me on their care etc? I kinda got lumped with them because they werent being cared for with previous owner. I have done some reading on the net but as with fish, I am sure there is some bad info out there.

Thanks

I haven't had a hermit crab in years, love the little guys. Here is an article that might help you http://exoticpets.about.com/od/hermitcrabs/f/nakedhermitcrab.htm

I dessicated my last one, so I'm not going to be much help other than saying that dry sand is probably a bad idea. A hermie out of its shell is not a good sign. I've got my fingers crossed for your little guy.

They're stubborn little buggers. If they don't find a shell they like, they go kaput. Get more shells!!

Its back in a shell now. I put it in a container with a few shells to choose from. I won the shell battle.

Why is sand a bad idea? What should I use instead?

Sand should be fine as long as you can keep it damp.

He is back to being shell less again, tried on two other shells and is now wondering around naked again.
